BUFFALO — We have a major scandal brewing in Buffalo.

Erin Basil, the girlfriend of Sabres forward Jack Eichel, filed an order of protection against the longtime girlfriend of Sabres forward Elias Pettersson, reports Buffalo News.

Erin filed the order against Carly Rae Jepsen (Pettersson’s girlfriend), alleging cyberbulling and a “campaign of harassment that plagued the couple” after the trade that brought Eichel to Buffalo. Eichel was named captain and #1 centre before the season began — roles once destined for the young Swedish phenom.

According to the Buffalo News, Erin’s statement to the court said that Jepsen wished her to go bankrupt, while also wishing someone would take out Jack’s legs to end his career.

The allegations are related to anonymous social media postings, with accusations of burner accounts. The Buffalo News reports Jack called out a troll on Instagram after the trade who accused him and his girlfriend of “popping painkiller medication.” which they also allege caused Eichel’s trade out of Florida.

The Sabres issued a statement, saying the team is cooperating with the league and legal authorities.

Pettersson issued a statement saying he and Jepsen are willing to cooperate and that it’s “1000 per cent that it’s not them.”

There’s no telling where this will go, but it certainly explains why trade rumors around Elias Pettersson have came up out of nowhere.
